Auckland Transport’s Eastern Busway project between Pakūranga and Botany has a lot of moving parts. The significant works along Ti Rākau Drive are being delivered within a tight construction corridor alongside a busy arterial route. As part of the project, Troy Wheeler Contracting (TWC) approached Hynds for large-diameter manhole risers and flanged base sections ranging from 3 to 4 metres.
Moving components of this size is no simple task. Deliveries require specialist transport, heavy load permits and pilot vehicles, with cranes often needed for installation. Access off Ti Rākau Drive must be carefully timed, alongside lane management and coordination with lifting crews working within a constrained footprint.
Limited space, live traffic conditions and the dynamic nature of the site mean planning must be precise, while still allowing for short-notice changes as the programme shifts. In practice, deliveries are regularly brought forward or delayed, requiring quick adjustments to transport, lifting, and product availability.
We worked alongside TWC to manage the demands of the project. Using our own Hiab fleet alongside specialist transport partners, and with our dedicated order managers coordinating deliveries, we were able to respond to programme changes and keep works moving.
Available Sizes and Configurations
Hynds Pipe Systems supplies purpose-built large-diameter manhole riser sections up to 4 metres, with options to suit installation requirements. This includes 3000 and 3200mm diameters with or without step holes and a range of riser heights, as well as 4000mm diameter sections in 1000mm heights. Step configurations can be incorporated where safe access requirements apply.
Lower carbon options are also available through the HyndsLC® range. This includes LC25 mixes, delivering around 25% average carbon reduction, and LC25+ solutions where further reductions can be achieved through project-specific design optimisation.
