Stormpocket Supplied by Hynds – Installation at Roger Gill Agriculture’s New Commercial Building, Pukekohe
THE SITUATION
With Pukekohe rapidly urbanising over the last few years, impervious surfaces such as asphalt and concrete have increased, which prevents natural infiltration of stormwater and increases the risk of localised flooding. Roger Gill Agriculture is constructing a new commercial building in north Pukekohe, needing a stormwater management solution to retain runoff and protect the downstream network.
Stormpocket, supplied by Hynds based in Hamilton, is a modular underground stormwater tank system, designed to retain runoff or allow infiltration into the surrounding soils. Its cost-effectiveness, ease of installation, and quick delivery made it the ideal choice for this project.
THE EXECUTION
In collaboration with the design by TSC – The Surveying Company, Hynds supplied a tank system that could manage large volumes of runoff while remaining simple and cost-efficient. Initially, the designer considered alternative products, but after reviewing the Stormpocket product and testing data it demonstrated the simplicity of assembly, making its advantages become clear. The ease of installation, reduced labour time, and cost efficiency made it the preferred choice. The Up-Flo Filter supplied by Hynds will be also installed upstream to capture debris, reducing the risk of accumulation at the tank inlet and preventing blockages.
The crates were supplied from Hamilton within a week of order, and the installation was completed in just one day. The contractors described the assembly process as “Lego-like”, noting it was the easiest and quickest tank they had installed. Consultant also mentioned “no issues were found during installation”.
From the initial setup to the final stage, the product has proven its reliability in terms of installation, giving us confidence to offer it to consultants and contractors nationwide. Supplying this innovative solution presents a great opportunity for Hynds to help protect communities from flooding.
